Bringing people closer to God since 1984.
Who are we?
Bro. Hogarth Louis, with prompting from God, founded God of Mercy Church in September of 1984. The teachings and beliefs of our church are based upon the doctrines and principles that Christ and His apostles established back in the first century.
We are not Apostolic, although we believe in the doctrine of the apostles (Acts 2:42, Eph. 2:20). Neither are we Pentecostal, although we believe in the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:4, Acts 10:45-46, Acts 19:6). Nor are we fundamentalist, although we believe in the importance of the fundamental teachings of Christ, and that we should have books, chapters, and verses for what we believe. We are disciples (discipline followers) of Christ (Mark 2:15). We are Truth seekers who are seeking to live like Christ.
Our Church’s History, our Pastor and His Wife
Brother Hogarth Louis and his wife, Dacilia Louis, are the founders of God of Mercy Church in Brooklyn, NY. Their journey began on September 9, 1983, when they migrated from Haiti to the United States. Initially planning to settle in Washington D.C., they visited Brooklyn to stay with family and ultimately made it their home.
Despite multiple visions from church members about their future ministry, Brother Louis resisted the idea of pastoring a church. However, a homeowner recognized his pastoral calling and offered them a basement space to start a church. After praying for signs and provisions, their prayers were answered, leading to the establishment of God of Mercy Church on September 2, 1984, with 16 members.
Through faith and perseverance, Brother Louis and Dacilia faced numerous challenges but witnessed the growth of the church by God’s grace. By 1987, the church moved to a larger location, and in 2000, we acquired our new building where we currently worship. After overcoming significant financial hurdles, we inaugurated the new church building in 2004 and celebrated our 25th church anniversary in 2009.
Brother Hogarth and Dacilia Louis's unwavering faith and dedication have been instrumental in the growth and success of God of Mercy Church, making their story a testament to divine provision and perseverance.
